The Athlone Archdeaconry HIV/AIDS Task Team has been in operation for the past 4 years. All seven parishes – St Aidan, St Mark, St John, St George, Holy Nativity, St Dominique and All Saints – have active task teams with a variety of individual activities, ranging from creating awareness to care giving and support, as well as fundraising, within their local communities.

Their objective has always been to reach out to people and institutions in need, supporting those infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS. Since their inception they have held at least one major fundraiser per year and in September 2006 they hosted a very successful Spring Tea at the Parish Hall of St. Aidan in Lansdowne. The money raised at this event was donated to Heavens Nest in Ottery. In the past they have donated money to Heavens Nest as well as GAPA in Gugulethu, and Beautiful Gate in Philippi.

The task teams are involved in a project at Red Cross Hospital where they feed and minister to parents of sick children at Wards B1, B2 and C1.
